In 1959, after purchasing his first truck, Joe McIlvaine established McIlvaine Trucking and worked as an independent contractor. By 1977 the company had grown to a dozen trucks and was fully incorporated, and by 1982 it saw the creation of the current central operating and maintenance facilities in rural Wooster, Ohio.
Operating 218 propane, asphalt and chemical units in its tank division, McIlvaine Trucking International, Inc is the largest transporter of propane and second largest transporter of asphalt in Ohio.
Striving to expand and diversify its customer base, McIlvaine created its van division, McIlvaine Trucking, Inc, in 1998 to provide dedicated transportation services to major retail and industrial distribution centers. In a short time, the division grew from zero to seventy power units and continues to expand and focus on its truckload transportation services in recession-proof, food-related commodities.
Full service terminals were created as a new subsidiary, Fleet Maintenance Services, LLC., and operate in Wooster and Walbridge, OH, New Stanton, PA, and Ashland, KY. Providing a complete range of repairs from preventative maintenance to engine rebuilds, annual inspections and tank trailer repairs, Fleet Maintenance is comprised of a team of industry experts, including two federally certified experts in the Wooster facility, one each in Walbridge and in New Stanton, and one federally certified tank welder and fabricator in Ashland.
Growth, safety, profitability and professional relationships with employees and customers have been the keynotes of the company's success.
